Greetings, fellow Masons: Boooooooo!!!!!! Okay, it isn't Halloween yet, but I'll bet I have your attention. Lots have happened since the October newsletter. We lost two of our Brothers as they have given up their working tools and moved on to the future: *Brother Wayne R. Murphy and Worshipful Brother Terry T. Harris.* On the positive side of the ledger, we received two petitions for new membership and one request to reinstate his membership. Our sister organization, the Lakeville Order Eastern Star (OES) Chapter #479, celebrated their 100-year anniversary on October 7. Our Lodge hosted a Ritual Workshop on October 14, with numerous lodges attending from the northwest corner of Indiana. Grand Lecturer Dennis Davis was the moderator as the Entered Apprentice was the main topic, but all degrees were discussed. However, we were restricted to some degree because there was one new EA in attendance. On October 21, Newon Park hosted a "Trunk or Treat," several of our members and their wives handed out nearly 800 packets of candy to the Halloweeners. Thanks to those members who stuffed the packets and donated the candy. Word has it that Brother Giff Torbenson ate more candy than he stuffed into the packets. Numerous times during the event, someone would say to a trick-or-treater, this is the group that Uncle So and So belongs to. We put an info card about Freemasonry and the Eastern Star in each bag that was handed out. Mother Nature put the hurts on the October 7th golf outing as cold temps, rain, and wind were forecast. We canceled the event and will reschedule in May or June of 2024. ( As a side note, we had 22 businesses donate to be hole sponsors. They all agreed to let us keep the proceeds and use the funds at our next scheduled event. WOW - THANKS) *Brothers Rod Anders and J.D. Ort are to be thanked for their efforts working on this project.* November 2 is our next stated meeting. Dinner is at 6:30 - and the meeting is at 7:30. Creamed turkey and biscuits are on the menu. */Please call Chris Rowe (574-274-5206) or Brother Harold Rowe (574-217-4610) with reservations for dinner. /* This meeting is the election of officers night for 2024 and to vote on the new membership petitions. Please try to make the meeting. As far as I know, the Installation of new officers is planned for December 9, 2023. Our Lodge will also host the Feast of St. John's on December 27, 2023. Please get in touch with Brother Todd Whitteberry before December 7^th if you plan on attending. ( 574-309-2247 or twhitteberry@gmail.com ) I leave you with this: *"When you have got an elephant by the hind legs, and he is trying to run away, it is best to let him run."* - /Abraham Lincoln/ Happy Thanksgiving everyone -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Larry Ort - Worshipful Master lmort58@yahoo.com Lakeville Lodge
